We didn’t see or hear
a single rat, and yet when I woke up in the night, I listened well, but
nothing. A sailor wrote on the Internet, however, that he heard them running on
the deck of his boat at night. The cat comes to have breakfast with us and then
we see a beautiful bird on the dock. It is a bit far, the picture is not clear,
but when I tried to approach it he flew away. We leave at 9:15, heading north.
It’s gray, a bit of wind almost from the front (again!) But we can put up the
jib and combining jib and engine, we make good speed. We see the island of
Atoko and the "One House Bay" where we spent one night at anchor,
June 24, 2015. We are approaching the island of Kalamos where we are going, and
the port is called Port Kalamos. The village looks important, but at least half
of the houses are closed. We enter the harbor at 1 pm, one sailboat is there
and there is plenty of space along the dock. A cat adopts us quickly and is
entitled to a sardine and a little bread in oil. She gets on the boat and feels
at home. Lunch, small rest and walk in the village, mix of beautiful well-kept
houses, earthquake ruins and houses with a lot mess around. We swim at a small
white pebbles beach, near an old windmill. Back to Hera II, blog and DIY for
Jens, he tries to repair the gas alarm that doesn’t work. But he succeeds too
well: the alarm doesn’t stop ringing. The other sailboat's couple goes by and
we talk a little bit, they are Swedish. Dinner at the only restaurant still
open. It’s a one man show, the guy is cooking and serving. We follow a Greek
series on television in the meantime, it's dramatic, they cry, they scream ...
It's funny, especially when we don’t understand. The servings are plentiful, we
don’t eat half of it and we ask for a doggy bag to carry the left
over for the cat. But when we get back to the boat, we are tempted to turn the
doggy bag into a dinner for us tomorrow.

Bonjour!
