18.10.2017 Lakka, Ile de Paxos/Paxos Island

Levés à 8 h, Jens va acheter du pain puis va payer pour la dernière nuit pendant que je vais acheter des fruits et des légumes, la fruiterie était fermée hier soir. Nous rangeons bien tout en bas et nous sommes prêts à partir à 10 h 30. La météo est bonne pour cette première sortie avec Hera II, vent léger et belle mer. Jens démarre le moteur, va retirer la planche et les amarres de derrière, je prends la barre et il va remonter l’ancre devant. Tout va bien … jusqu’à ce que l’ancre se bloque ! Elle est accrochée avec l’ancre du voisin. Mais elle se décroche facilement, Jens la laisse redescendre, j’avance un peu et elle monte. Ouf ! Nous sortons du port bien comme il faut, le moteur tourne bien, un bon ronron quand on est dans le cockpit, mais en bas c’est très bruyant, il est mal isolé et en plus il y a un grand trou dans la cloison sous l’escalier entre le moteur et le salon, il manque une planche, et Jens, bien sûr, va le réparer. Nous suivons un chenal pour sortir de la baie et tournons nord-ouest vers l’ile de Paxos, au sud de Corfou. Jens essaye l’autopilote mais il ne marche pas, il nous fait dévier vers la droite tout le temps. Et la roue est « molle », elle ne reste pas en position si on la lâche, Jens dévisse et graisse un « truc » et elle est plus dure et on peut la lâcher, elle garde le cap. Nous allons d’abord au moteur puis essayons le foc et un peu plus tard Jens hisse la grand voile et nous arrêtons le moteur. Mais nous n’allons pas vite 2,5-3 nœuds. Nous déjeunons au calme puis redémarrons le moteur en gardant la grand-voile. Hera II va plus vite que Maja au moteur, elle atteint 6 nœuds sans problème, à 2000 tours/minutes et avec la grand-voile, un petit peu de vent (force 2)  et le moteur nous allons à 6,8 nœuds. Je dois avouer que j’avais un peu peur de ce nouveau bateau, mais en fait il est un peu du même genre que Maja : lourd, stable et très sûr. Le moral remonte plusieurs crans, cette traversée est idéale, beau temps, mer plate, bon bateau, tout va bien. Nous passons voir une baie sur Andipaxos, une petite ile voisine de Paxos, mais c’est vraiment ouvert et nous continuons. Nous arrivons  à la baie de Lakka, au nord de Paxos à 17 h 30, jolie baie, bien protégée et où nous comptons 15 voiliers ancrés. En octobre ! L’été, d’après « notre ami » Rod Heikkel (que nous retrouvons avec plaisir) dans le guide « Ionian », c’est la foire d’empoigne pour avoir une place. Ancrage sans problème, premier ankerdram de ce voyage, baignade, blog et diner de spaghetti dehors, éclairés par une lampe que Jens a bricolée. Il fait beau, la baie est jolie et calme. Très bonne première journée de prise de contact avec Hera II.

Up at 8 am, Jens buys bread and then goes to pay for the last night in the harbor while I buy some fruits and vegetables, the fruit shop was closed last night. We stow well everything down and we are ready to leave at 10:30 am. The weather forecast is good for this first trip with Hera II, light wind and calm sea. Jens starts the engine, removes the board and the moorings lines behind, I take the helm and he goes to take up the anchor in front. Everything is fine ... until the anchor stops! It is hung with the neighbor’s anchor. But it is easy to unhook, Jens let it down again, I move a little forwards and it goes up! We motor out of the port, the engine is running well, a good purr when we are in the cockpit, but downstairs it is very noisy, it is badly insulated and in addition there is a large hole in the partition under the stairs between the engine and the living room, a plank is missing, and Jens, of course, will fix it. We follow a channel out of the bay and turn northwest to the island of Paxos, south of Corfu. Jens tries the autopilot but it doesn’t work, it makes us divert to the right all the time. And the wheel is "soft", it doesn’t stay in position if released, Jens unscrew and grease a "ting" and the wheel becomes harder and can keep course. We are motoring first and then try the jib and a little later Jens hoist the mainsail and we stop the engine. But we are not going fast 2.5-3 knots. We enjoy a calm lunch without noise and then restart the engine keeping the mainsail. Hera II goes faster than Maja when motoring, she reaches 6 knots without problems, at 2000 rpm and with the mainsail, a little wind (force 2) and the engine we go at 6.8 knots. I must admit that I was a little afraid of this new boat, but in fact she is a little similar to Maja: heavy, stable and very safe. The moral goes up several notches, this crossing is ideal, good weather, flat sea, good boat, everything is pleasant. We go to see a bay on Andipaxos, a small island near Paxos, but it's really open and we continue. We arrive at Lakka Bay, north of Paxos at 5:30 pm, beautiful bay, well protected and where we count 15 anchored sailboats. In October ! In summer, according to "our friend" Rod Heikkel (who we meet again with pleasure) in the guide "Ionian", it’s a fight to find a place. Anchorage without problem, first ankerdram of this trip, bathing, blog and dinner of spaghetti outside, lit by a lamp that Jens has tinkered. It is a beautiful evening, the bay is pretty and calm. Very good first contact with Hera II.
